As seen on Dragons’ Den, Trapped in the Web founder and creator Dave Murphy managed to secure investment from businesswoman and entrepreneur, Sara Davies.
Since its conception last year, Trapped in the Web has gone from strength to strength, providing much-needed entertainment during lockdowns.
Owing to its wide range of themed virtual escape rooms, it’s helped connect people with their friends, loved ones and colleagues, offering them hours of fun — and a break from bog-standard online quizzes!
In addition to being a huge hit with customers, Trapped in the Web attracted the attention and imagination of Dragons’ Den, with founder and creator Dave Murphy entering The Den to seek investment from the titans of business.
Speaking of his experience entering The Den, Dave says: “It was terrifying stepping out of that famous lift and pitching my online, virtual escape rooms to five of the biggest titans of business.”
Preparing a specially-made Dragons’ Den-themed escape room for the group to take on, Dave really got the Dragons excited and engaged with his product.
“Touker Suleyman took to the laptop and guided his fellow Dragons through the room as they solved the puzzles as a team,” he says.
Dave was asking for a £30,000 investment in return for a 10 per cent share of the business, and although Touker was particularly keen and offered a massive £50,000 for 15 per cent, Dave accepted Sara Davies’ generous offer.
“It was a tough decision and I had to go to the wall to have a think about it. As much as the generous, increased offer from Touker was appealing, Sara’s passion and enthusiasm for the business shone through for the entirety of the pitch.”
Since October 2020, Sara has been instrumental in growing Trapped in the Web, helping Dave set up a brand new website for the online escape rooms.
